LOPO

LOPO - Local Politics – a Danish International Centre for Studies of Local Administration and Service established in 1991 by Naestved Municipality.

The LOPO study visit programme offers the possibility of getting acquainted with the Scandinavian model aimed at social welfare, service and care of the elderly, child and youth policy, environment and planning as well as the public administration of the knowledge society.

Since the establishment of the LOPO study visit programme many administrators, politicians, researchers, practicing, students etc. have participated in the study visit arrangements. There have been participants coming from the U.S., Africa, Japan, and Europe.

Owing to the worldwide change of the population structure with an increased number of elderly people special interest has been shown in the Scandinavian model concerning care of and services provided to the elderly focusing on the customised care based on the needs and possibilities of the individual citizen.

But also the requirement for a cleaner environment has aroused an interest in the planning and handling of refuse and waste water as practised by the public authorities.

The worldwide change of family structures creates new needs for service, especially the care of children before and of school age. Child welfare also comprises a requirement for the stimulation of the wish for learning. Therefore the LOPO study visit programme also includes subjects relating to these opportunities in day-care centres and primary schools.

Also the grown population has a need for supplementary training and further education and through the LOPO programme you may gain insight in these services offered by the Danish education system through visits to educational establishments for adults.
